Sustainable Rivermanagement- Energy and environmental assessment of potential flow fluctuation mitigation measures
Description
The SuREmMa project provides a nationally applicable, practically tested scientific evaluation tool to assess and weigh various wave-damping action scenarios in accordance with the Water Framework Directive. This assessment will consider ecological and energy economic aspects at both the section and watershed levels. The instrument developed in the context of the SuREmMa project to evaluate the ecological impacts of anthropogenically induced flow fluctuations is utilized in the follow-up project SuREmMa+ project to: a) capture the current hydromorphological state at the section level, b) define different remediation scenarios in relation to potentially implementable wave-damping measures, and c) assess the expected ecological impacts while considering additional morphological measures. Furthermore, the project provides detailed evaluations based on the specific water-related circumstances at both the watershed level (e.g., undisturbed hydrological conditions, sediment balance) and at smaller scales (e.g., spawning habitats, small-scale morphological structures). The results obtained serve as the basis for defining the target state in accordance with the EU Water Framework Directive.
