HERI – Research Actions Database

Welcome to the HERI Research Actions Database. The database provides details of past and present research actions related to all aspects of hydropower. The database has been structured following the categorisation developed for the HYDROPOWER EUROPE research and innovation agenda, and Strategic Industry Roadmap.

The database contents have been collated from a variety of organisations working on research actions across all sectors of the hydropower industry. The information has been share freely and is available as open access. You can search the database or add details of new initiatives to the database via the buttons below.

Solutions to reduce wear in hydropower plants

Description

The objective of WEREHYPO is studying solutions to reduce the wear that takes place in different hydropower plant components as a consequence of the provision of balancing services to the power system. The solutions that will be studied are: - Optimization models for the energy and reserve scheduling considering the cost associated to the wear of different plant components as a function of the operational decisions. - Control algorithms for the coordinated real-time operation of the hydropower plant and an energy storage system, namely, batteries and/or supercapacitors, that minimize the wear of both the hydropower plant components and the energy storage system (often referred to as ageing), while ensuring the provision of quality frequency control.
